Nakstad on the mutated virus in Sweden: – There are many reasons to be vigilant in Norway too

Swedish authorities announced on Saturday that the same mutation of the virus that has been discovered in the United Kingdom has been discovered in our neighboring country. The mutated virus has prompted several countries to introduce an entry ban for travelers from the UK.

– We are closely monitoring developments in Sweden and other countries with a view to the spread of new mutated viruses. There are many reasons to be vigilant and analyze samples also in Norway so that these new, more contagious virus variants do not establish in our country, Nakstad tells NTB.

– We are now reviewing quarantine systems and testing regimes to ensure that we do not become infected with new mutated viruses to a greater extent than necessary.

Fly through Sweden uncontrollably

Swedish authorities warn that a person who tested positive on December 21 turned out to have the mutated virus. They warn that more may have received it.

At the same time, a UK plane landed in Arlanda on Saturday, despite the entry ban that has been adopted.

Thus, 29 people entered Sweden from the UK without testing or quarantine requirements.

Norway’s extended ban

Norway’s flight ban from the UK was extended from December 29 to 29.

– It is still necessary to maintain measures so that we buy time to acquire more knowledge about the virus and prevent a possible spread of the virus in Norway. As the situation is now, we do not have the ability to assess all travelers coming from the UK at the border, says Health and Care Services Minister Bent Høie.

– It could lead to a lack of control over the spread of the new variant of the virus, significantly more contagious, says Høie.
