Karlsson, like Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, had to go several months without competing. In a recent interview with Dagbladet, Karlsson, who had her breakthrough at WC Seefeld in 2019, says she was so depressed that waking up was exhausting.

On the show, Petter Northug praises the 21-year-old Swede for the fight she’s been through:
– What I think was impressive about you is that you were, like me, so young when you made your way. You made the breakthrough in WC Seefeld as a junior. Then you will be thrown directly at him. There is no smooth transition, Northug says.
He continues:
– When you have also shown that you can get up afterwards, it is incredibly impressive, because you are so young. What inspires me the most about over-athletes is how they get up when they’re down. It is strong and it touches me.
