Little Richard, one of the godparents of rock, died at the age of 87, reports Rolling Stone.

The artist died Saturday, his son Danny Penniman told the music magazine. The cause of death is not yet known.

Little Richard is considered one of the godparents of rock. As a composer, pianist, and singer, he had a great influence on rock music for seven decades. With her high energy and unique voice, she brought people to the dance floor with songs like “Tutti Frutti”, “Good Golly Miss Molly” and “Long Tall Sally”.

Richard Wayne Penniman was born in Macon, Georgia, in 1932. When he was 14, he was discovered by gospel music Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who allowed him to play.

Her last big hit was “Good Golly Miss Molly”. After that, he never made it to the top ten list in the United States. But it was a great inspiration for various artists for many years after.

Several of his songs were performed by The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Queen, and Elton John told Rolling Stone in 1973 that Little Richard was one of his great role models.

Little Richard continued his tour for decades afterward, but left the music on the shelf in 2013.

In 1986, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and also earned his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
