In the dark, Ragnar Gøllner came out to see what had happened. The sight that found him made him recoil quickly.
Ragnar Gøllner (74) lives in the Nystulia residential area of Gjerdrum, about 300 meters from the fast edge where a large landslide occurred on Wednesday night. He was awakened at 0430 by the helicopter that was in the air and flashed just after the landslide and quickly got police and firefighters at the door with evacuation instructions.
By then Gøllner was out to see what had happened. The sight that found him made him shudder:
– I went out to see what it was and quickly understood that there had been a landslide. I was about 30 to 40 meters from the edge of the avalanche and looked down into a gorge. It was very dark, so I didn’t see much, but I understood that it was a big landslide, Gøllner tells Nettavisen.
Realizing he was standing near the edge of the chasm, he quickly walked away from the scene and followed the police’s instructions to evacuate.
– I did not dare to go to the edge, but I saw the entire front of the avalanche, he says.
– I’ve lived here nine years. It’s an area with fast clay, but there hasn’t been a landslide here in the time I’ve lived here, says Gøllner.
