Arnold P. Hicarte, a Filipino who was a ship’s medic aboard Hurtigruten’s MS “Roald Amundsen”, has died.

Report to Nordlys.

According to the newspaper, Hicarte is said to have died in a criminal incident in his home country.

Nordlys quotes Filipino outlet Remate Online, which writes that Hicarte was shot to death and was likely a random victim.

Hurtigruten has sent his condolences

Tarjei Kramviken, Hurtigruten press officer, writes the following in an email to Dagbladet:

– We know that a former employee has been the victim of a criminal act in his country of origin. We have sent our condolences to the family and the relatives in this sad case.

The manning agency OSM Maritime was the ship’s doctor’s employer.

He has been in contact with the family.

Geir Sekkesæter at OSM Maritime confirms Dagbladet’s death. He has been in contact with Hicarte’s family.

– This has nothing to do with your business in Norway, says Sekkesæter.

After consulting with the family, he does not wish to comment further.

A total of 71 people were infected after the corona outbreak in Hurtigruten ‘Roald Amundsen’ MS.

An investigation into the outbreak, carried out by the law firm Wiersholm and DNV GL, established that the suspected infection was not followed up and that the quarantine rules were incorrectly practiced.

There were 122 Filipinos among the 170 in the crew, NTB writes.
