– Now we have finally received 50 names of the refugees that Greece has selected to move from the Moria camp to Norway. I hope this means that we can welcome you all to Norway in the not too distant future, says Minister for Children and Families Kjell Ingolf Ropstad (KrF) to NTB.
– Conditions in the camp are demanding and getting these families out is a priority for Norway. The Greek authorities have now accelerated the process. It has taken time and the pandemic has further delayed the withdrawal, says the KrF leader.
It was Vårt Land who first announced that the names of the 50 are ready. The refugees will arrive in Norway in January and February next year, the UDI’s deputy communications director, Håkon Fenstad, told the daily.
– There will be large and small Syrian families. We are talking about parents with children, so grandparents are not included for example, he says.
Refugees and migrants must be able to document or prove that they are Syrian citizens. They must also be part of a family with minor children.
– These are families with children who come from a very vulnerable situation. It is very gratifying that they are finally one step closer to reaching Norway, Liberal Party leader Guri Melby tells NTB.
On September 9, the UDI was ordered to begin work on the relocation of refugees from Greece to Norway. This was the same day as the great Lesbos fire, where the entire Moria camp was burned. Since then, the around 7,500 residents of the camp have been housed in a makeshift camp.
