– We are very surprised. We had not thought that there would be such poor compliance with the quarantine and isolation obligation, says professor of health economics Bjarne Robberstad at UiB to Dagbladet.
The survey is based on responses from 1704 people who have been asked to self-quarantine or isolate themselves. 402 of them had been imposed one or more times. Participants have had to answer several questions every three to six weeks, writes NRK, first mentioning the recent survey.
The number of cases doubled in Norway
42 percent break
The study, which has been given access to Dagbladet, shows that only 42 percent of the participants claim to have completed the quarantine or isolation obligation as it should be.
The worst situation is the population over 50 years of age, where 76% declare that they have violated the rules at least once.
– Young people are by far the best, while those aged 50-60 are significantly worse. And there are no small differences, but big differences, he says.
By comparison, 72 percent of participants between the ages of 18 and 29 claim they have completed quarantine and isolation as required.
People with symptoms scored higher in compliance.

Halved since April
Robberstad says the study started in April and that 2 out of 3 people said the rules were followed.
– Not surprisingly, compliance has been cut in half since April. It was already cut in half in May, when schools and kindergartens reopened and people started shrugging a bit, he says.
– Have the participants stated any reason why they have violated duty?
– No, this is an urgent investigation, and we must follow it with exhaustive analyzes where we observe the causal connection and analyze more deeply.
The survey, which is part of a broader European research collaboration, has been conducted every month since April and will continue until September.
