More than 60 ton tunnel platform fell from trucks – NRK Møre og Romsdal – Local News, TV and Radio

Fv. 63 is closed between Eidsdal and Geiranger after a tunnel platform weighing more than 60 tons overturned the truck during transport.

The tunnel platform was directed to the Korsmyra-Indreeide tunnel project of the Møre og Romsdal County Municipality.

Salvage has been ordered, but the transport weighs 60 tonnes and salvage work is expected to take a long time.

The road is the only road to Geiranger in winter and Geiranger and parts of Eidsdal are now isolated.

– We have an excavator on site and are working full time to see if it is possible to make a detour so that smaller vehicles such as cars and ambulances can pass, says project manager Arne Ola Stavseng in Møre og county Romsdal.

No personal injury

It is not yet clear how the tunnel platform could fall.

– We still don’t know how this could happen, but now we have the main focus on opening the road again, says Stavseng.

The platform fell on a sharp curve and luckily there were no other drivers nearby.

– There were no personal injuries and we are very happy that the driver was alone on the road when he was picked up, says Stavseng.

Expect there to be a detour for emergency services overnight.

– There is a stable climate and little snow in the mountains, so we expect them to drift overnight. If that doesn’t work, we must deploy an emergency ferry, says Tryggestad.
