Sarpsborg Municipality writes on its website that more than 500 people have been quarantined. There are children and young people in schools and kindergartens, as well as employees and users in health institutions.

Earlier this week, it became known that the sharp increase in infection in the two cities began during a Muslim holiday in Sarpsborg. At least one person must have been infected when they attended the celebration.

On Friday night, nine new cases of infection were confirmed in Sarpsborg and 40 in Fredrikstad.

149 cases of infection

– The situation is such that yesterday afternoon there were a total of 149 infected people in Sarpsborg, says municipal chief doctor Siri Brelin.

She says the municipality feels it has relatively good control of the situation. So far, they can track every case.

– The population already knows most of the things that come from an assembly in a religious community, he says.

The municipality’s management will evaluate this weekend if new measures should be implemented.

– In Indre Østfold, they closed the municipality for more than a week. Could it be relevant to do something similar in Sarpsborg?

– These are things that are considered continuously, but until now it has not been the case that it has been thought that it has been necessary.

– Everyone should remember to keep their distance.

Earlier this week, Fredrikstad municipal chief physician Sofie Lund Danielsen said the outbreak is a reminder that we still need to take the situation seriously.

– I cannot comment on whether the infection control rules have been followed at this event. But this is a reminder that we all need to remember to keep our distance and above all to stay home if we have symptoms.

Both municipalities are working to get an overview of close contacts after the outbreak. It concerns both children, adults and the elderly.

The town councils contact everyone who has been to the event. In each positive case, they work with infection tracking.
