The Møre og Romsdal police district has fined Molde Football Club 50,000 crowns for two violations of infection control legislation.

Published:

It takes place after the club organized a season finale, one day before quarantine after an away game in Austria ended. In addition, 14 people outside the Molde FK cohort stopped by at night.

The meeting took place on Saturday, December 19. 35 people from the players and support staff were present, while covid-19 regulations set a limit of 20 people for such private gatherings, police write.

– The most serious thing is that it is not allowed to have an event with more than 20 people – who are all in quarantine, says police lawyer Anders Skorpen-Trøen in the Møre og Romsdal police district to VG.

– In addition, we have included in the assessment that another 14 people came to the place during the evening – and that they did not belong to the cohort.

Skorpen-Trøen says that they consider it to be the event that provides the basis for punishment.

– Therefore, we have not considered sanctioning any of the participants, only the club.

Mold FK broke the rules of the crown and fell flat: – We have deceived ourselves

– Did it take place under the auspices of the club?

– Yes, it was at least the club that had facilitated a final for A and the squad.

– Is this the largest fine you have imposed for violating the rules of the crown?

– Yes, here on Møre og Romsdal it is. But I can’t say anything about the rest of the country.

Skorpen-Trøen says the fine could have been even higher:

– Probably the fine would have been correct if the Molde Football Club had not immediately contacted the health authorities of the municipality of Molde and had gone through the monitoring of infections and contact with those who visited the event, in order to reduce the risk of harmful effects. It is conciliatory and led to the amount being less than it would have been otherwise.

The club has apologized for the incident. The event took place on Saturday, after the 5-0 win over Sarpsborg 08, but before the quarantine after the end of the away game against Rapid Wien in Austria. They played against the great Austrian club on Thursday December 10, while the celebration was on Saturday 19.

– We have deceived ourselves. We had one day left of that quarantine. We are very sorry for that. It is very stupid that this has happened, and a clear message has been given to the group of players that we do not think this is right, CEO Ole Erik Stavrum at Molde told Romsdals Budstikke last week.

Stavrum did not respond to VG’s question on Wednesday.
