It creaks on little sticks, roots and children’s needles as Mikael Aunan makes his way down the path outside the house at Børsa in Trøndelag. He has been here countless times before.

– Not long ago there were only a myriad of branches and bushes here, laughs Mikael.

She imagines her son Ola running across the grounds around the house, just one year old, looking for lynx tracks and new and interesting places.

He decided that his son should have his own way.

Ola loved to play on the new path, which started right behind the house and extended to a nearby stream.

Many helpers

It was then that Mikael Aunan had the idea for a longer hiking trail. This time in an area where he himself had always enjoyed walking. Namely, by the mighty Stormorfossen in Skaun.

– It was so cute there, so I thought it was time to notice a little.

But that didn’t stop there.

Mikael Aunan has created a tourist paradise in Skaun.

He made benches, built railings and bridges. A large gapahuk, with a fire and firewood that is ready to be used by whoever wants it.

– If you add up all the trails, they will be more than a mile together, but the main trail is five kilometers. It is well signposted, says Aunan.

More than 100 signs showing the way have been put up, but also signs informing about this historic area.

For the most part, he has taken the bill himself. You haven’t done the job alone.

– It’s crazy with work behind. I have not done it alone, says Aunan, who has received help from school students, townspeople, friends and brothers.

– People I don’t know who just signed up for Facebook. You get a lot of new friends from this.

Highlight of the trip

The network of hiking trails is now used by up to 200 hikers on a good day.

– I was a lot for myself at first and I sent some snapshots. Many wanted to come see, and then it completely took off.

One of the things that draws people here is Stormorfossen, which is an impressive sight. The main attraction of the hiking trail with a drop of 10 meters.

Mikael Aunan has built a bench where people can enjoy the view of the beautiful waterfall and the water flowing from the plateau into a pool.

In the spring the waterfall can get really wild.

– Then there will be action here, says Aunan, who knows Stormorfossen better than most.

Historic area

In addition to marking trails, hikers can learn a lot of history. Various signs tell of old farms and small farms that used to be here.

Also, you can read about driftwood that happened here a hundred years ago.

– I think it’s fun to add some history along the hiking trail. So people can take the time to read and calm down a bit. Don’t rush to keep running, he says.

– And they say it’s “my taste”.

Mikael Aunan has received much praise from the villagers for the work he has done.

Britt Monika Grostad is one of the most enthusiastic users of the new hiking trails and is here at least twice a week.

– I have no words. Mikael is someone who does things correctly. He really is a great fiery soul, says Grostad.

– I’m sure many more now use the land here.
