Mayor: – Stay home!

On Friday of last week, Oslo closed all gyms as a measure to reduce the spread of the infection. Lillestrøm followed on Monday.

Then the fitness lovers fled to Asker and Bærum, who also had to close down.

Now Romerikes Blad reports that people from Oslo and Lillestrøm travel to the Ullensaker municipality for training and show images of the queues outside Sats in Jessheim.

Several gyms warn of the increase in demand. Sportica in Kløfta has chosen to stop the record.

“There is a large influx of people who want to become members of the center from areas other than what we normally get from our customer base. To prevent the municipality from having any further reason to shut down, we have introduced this measure to help stop the unnecessary spread of infection, ”writes the gym on Facebook.

Seeing an increase

Fresh Fitness CEO Lars Fredrik Strøm-Håkonsen sees an increase in the number of people from other municipalities.

– But the largest proportion are still those who train in Jessheim. We hope that our members will follow the measures that have been implemented in each municipality. So it is the case that some of our members can be trained in different centers, it is in the membership agreement, he says.

However, it encourages members to stay in their home municipality.

Sats communications manager Malin Selander tells Romerikes Blad that they have seen some increase in visitors to Sats Jessheim.

– It is the membership that controls access to the fitness centers and those with regional membership thus have access to various centers. The municipality of Oslo has made it clear that residents of the area must stay home, and therefore we encourage our members in Oslo to follow those guidelines, he tells Dagbladet.

She emphasizes that they take infection control very seriously and that there can be a line outside the center when they close the doors when it is full inside.

Annoyed mayor

Mayor Eyvind Jørgensen Schumacher of the municipality of Ullensaker has a clear encouragement for those who come to the municipality to train:

– Stay at home!

He says that they have a good dialogue with the Sats through the municipal superior, and he is betting that he can come up with a solution where only those who train locally can use the facilities.

– If not, we may have to close, says the mayor.

He points out that it is quite a long journey from Oslo to Jessheim, but now they see that some are willing to do it. That worries him.

– Then it goes against its purpose. One of the reasons we have been open is that we have not been infected in gyms here. Elsewhere in the United States, gyms have spread this spring. Then you worry.

Raymond Johansen answers questions from Dagbladet TV after the press conference.

The mayor explains that the municipality has closed glasses for children and young people, and only points out that it is not good to have to cross borders.

– Although gyms are careful about hygiene, the situation of breathing, panting and sweating is a regrettable situation.

The municipality of Ullensaker has been hit hard by the pandemic. The municipality ranks third among the municipalities with the highest unemployment, as a result of the layoffs in Gardermoen. For this reason, the municipality wants to save as many jobs as possible.

– We must overcome the infection. Oslo and Viken have been the epicenter, in addition to Bergen. Now we must stay home, avoid social contact and defeat the infection so that it does not spread throughout the region. Not good for contagion situation, says the mayor.
