Mayor after the crisis meeting: – The numbers are scary

The spread of the infection increases dramatically on Eidsvoll. In October, 30 cases of infection were registered in the municipality, compared with almost 100 new cases during the first three weeks of November.

Mayor John-Erik Vika (SP) believes that the high infection rates are due to the outbreak at the Villa Skaar Valstad nursing home, where all residents tested positive for covid-19. Nine crown-related deaths have also been recorded in the nursing home.

The situation has caused alarms to sound. On Tuesday night an emergency meeting was held in the municipality.

– We have had a tremendous boom in Villa Skaar which has really been an epicenter. The numbers scare me and worry me a lot, the mayor tells Dagbladet after the meeting.

– I sincerely hope you persevere

After Tuesday night’s meeting, where the chair in Eidsvoll discussed local infection control measures, Vika can say no further restrictions targeting the municipality’s nursing homes will be introduced.

The reason is that there are already very strict rules in place in the institutions, such as a restraining order, strict rules for movement between departments and infection control routines for employees.

– Now it’s about taking care of those who are left. They face a terrible situation, where employees work hard, residents lose friends, and relatives lose family members.

– I sincerely hope you persevere, says Vika to Dagbladet.

FHI will review the routines

On Wednesday, the National Institute of Public Health will visit Villa Skaar Valstad to review the routines of the nursing home after the outbreak.

– I have not seen lack of competition or failure in routines, but we are not prouder than asking for help from people who know even more about this. FHI will be involved in ending this outbreak in the most effective way possible, municipal chief physician Carl Magnus Jensen told Romerikes Blad on Tuesday.

FHI is also scheduled to visit the Vilberg health park, where there has been infection among employees.

“It’s good that FHI is reviewing nursing home routines so we can discover any routines that have the potential for improvement,” Vika tells Dagbladet.

New local initiatives

However, the crisis management decided to introduce some new local restrictions during the Tuesday night meeting.

– We have decided to introduce a ban on the use of masks both in shops and on public transport. It is not mainly due to the outbreak in the municipality, but to a preventive measure now that we are entering a hectic moment where there are many people in the shops, says the mayor.

Also, the rules are tightened for meetings in public places, where only 20 people are allowed.

The measures will take effect on Thursday at 08:00 and will last until December 20.
