Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde repeats her opinion on Dagsavisen’s candidate proposal:

– CBS asked me what I thought of the case and then it was difficult not to answer. The answer is, I don’t think Donald Trump qualifies, says Tybring-Gjedde, adding:

– I think there is a small minority in the Norwegian political landscape that supports a Trump nomination, and it would have been strange if I had not commented to CBS when asked.

In an email to CBS News, Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde wrote that she does not think Donald Trump is a good candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize reception.

– I did not nominate Donald Trump because I think he is not qualified to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The award is given to those who “have done more or better work to promote brotherhood among nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for maintaining and promoting peace talks.” Donald Trump is not the one that comes to mind when I read that description, Tybring-Gjedde writes in the email.

Good winners

Tybring-Gjedde emphasizes that there have been many good winners in recent years and believes that there may be good cross-party proposals from Norwegian parliamentary politicians.

Have you thought of any potential candidates yourself?

– I have not nominated anyone, but what is happening in Belarus is interesting, says Tybring-Gjedde.

According to the Nobel Institute’s criteria for proponents, all members of the National Assembly, the Storting, qualify to nominate candidates for the Peace Prize.

Trump thanked the nomination

– It has done more to create peace between nations than most of the winners of the peace prize, Christian Tybring-Gjedde said of his nomination proposal in an interview with the American news channel Fox News.

This is the second time Christian Tybring-Gjedde has nominated Donald Trump for the Peace Prize. Together with his party colleague and parliamentary representative Per-Willy Amundsen, he asked in 2018 that the American president receive the award for his rapprochement with North Korea and the talks he later had with the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, writes NTB. .

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump thanked the nomination on Twitter.
