The Swede has extended the contract with the Norwegian women’s team until after the European Football Championship, which moved to 2022.
This confirms the Secretary General Pål Bjerketvedt of the Norwegian Football Association to VG.
Sjögren had a contract with Norway in 2020 with an automatic extension until after the European Championship in 2021 if Norway qualified for the championship.
When the European Championships now move to 2022, Sjögren’s contract also extends until after this championship.
– It is quite natural for Martin’s contract to be extended after this championship when he moves, says Bjerketvedt.
– We had to have a proper conversation about it. The final decision had to come to the federal government before it was made, but we are very happy that we made it, says the secretary general.
A final date for the Swedish contract as manager of the Norwegian national team has not been set, because dates for the European finals relocated to 2022 have not yet been set.
The Swede told VG on April 1 that his ambition was to lead the Norwegian national team at the European Championship in England.
