Winter still doesn’t seem to be falling in various parts of the country. But now the meteorologist comes with a comforting message.
– A month is approaching until dawn, so warmer temperatures should arrive and summer soon, Geir Ottar Fagerlid, a meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute, tells VG.
On Monday morning, several people woke up to the fact that spring had suddenly turned to winter again. From Rogaland to Finnmark there is a kind of winter weather with cold degrees and snow.
In northern Norway, the first snowfall came in October, and it has been winter since then.
– Many people have reason to regret it, says Fagerlid.
Møre og Romsdal: recommends winter tires
On Tuesday, more snow came, and it doesn’t appear to be before the weekend. The meteorologist reports that there has been a lot of rain in the northwest of Norway, in Trøndelag and in the north of Norway.
– In Møre and Romsdal, 20-30 centimeters arrived on Tuesday, and here the road department has recommended changing the winter tires again. This is a very rare message that comes at this time of year.
– Harmful for gardens and agriculture.
The cause of winter weather is an outbreak of cold air from the Arctic. This has resulted in low temperatures across Norway, and among other things Rakkestad in Østfold measured minus three degrees last night. The frost tonight is not at all positive, according to Fagerlid.
– We had a few warm weeks in April and therefore spring was already underway in several places. The night frost that has come now is therefore damaging to gardens and agriculture, he says.

– Do not do me anything
But not everyone is comfortable with winter and snow. Brita Sundstrøm (68) and dog Stella (4) were on an observation tour in Tromsø on Tuesday afternoon.
– This is fantastic winter weather. I like this season a lot, so this does nothing to me.
Sundstrøm says he uses winter weather to its fullest, skiing and kicking.
– I enjoy what it is and use nature, it is only to dress according to the weather. I’m not depressed or upset, she says with a soft laugh.
The 68-year-old woman says she yearns for summer, but she knows that anyone who expects something good doesn’t wait in vain.
– I remember that it had snowed until June, many years ago. But I’ve lived so long that I know summer is coming to an end.
– It is difficult to get rid of cold air
We must go back to May 1997 to find similar snow conditions in northern Norway, as we have done now. On this day, exactly 23 years ago, there was 158 centimeters of snow in Tromsø, against 128 centimeters, which is the current measurement. On May 12, two years ago, there was not a single snowflake on the ground in what is called the Polar City.
– The cold air that lies above us is now difficult to remove. But after May 17, there is absolute hope of warmer temperatures. I can comfort people that it will be spring and summer in the end, ”says Fagerlid.
On Tuesday, the Meteorological Institute issued a yellow hazard warning again to Nordland and Troms. They report that there may be 10-20 centimeters of snow the next day.
