Brighton-Manchester United 2-3

Manchester United fought back after the nightmare start against Crystal Palace. It happened after an overtime drama like no other.

First, Solly March stabbed at 2-2 in five minutes of overtime for Brighton. Then a Harry Maguire header stopped on the line six minutes after overtime. Referee Chris Kavanagh blew the match.

But then he was caught in one hand by Brighton forward Neal Maupay and took a penalty kick after a check with the VAR. Then the winner of Bruno Fernande’s match with a sure penalty.

When asked how he would sum up the crazy drama, a playful Ole Gunnar Solskjær replies:

– You can’t really sum it up. It is emotion, drama. To be honest, we escaped.

– When they tied, I thought they had lost two points. Or maybe a point was what we deserved. I don’t think we deserve more, but the strength of character they showed deserved more. After the first goal we played better, and after the second, we went up and took a corner. That is something important compared to last season, Kristiansunderen continues in an interview with BT Sport.

That it was a penalty kick was a completely correct decision, the TV 2 experts concluded.

– By the end of the game! Maupay probably thinks about what he is doing when he puts his arms over his head. Brighton’s players have given up, but there is no reason for that, said expert commentator Petter Myhre.

– It’s a video judging at its best, agreed Brede Hangeland.

– The point is to achieve goals

Experts believe Brighton deserved more from the match. Not only did they get multiple chances, but they hit the posts five times.

The winner of the match, Bruno Fernandes, admits that it was a difficult match for Manchester United.

– Brighton was very good today, but maybe because we were not as aggressive as we would like. We have to win more balls, push better and lose the ball less often. You can talk about whether they deserved more or not. But the point is to score goals, not hit the posts or the crossbar. Sometimes you have to be a little bit lucky, Bruno Fernandes tells BT Sport.

Brighton manager Graham Potter is surprised Manchester United were allowed to hold out as long as they did.

– I thought our goal was the last kick to the ball. I don’t know where the overtime came from, but you have to ask the judges how much time they want to add. It’s a bit disappointing to get in the way we do, and a serious blow after a fantastic performance, says Potter.

Rashford-magi

Manchester United were down 0-1. Then they responded. First off an own goal by Lewis Dunk just before half-time, then when Marcus Rashford showed his best side just after.

The 22-year-old ran off a brilliant pass from Bruno Fernandes. Rashford entered the field. Since everyone thought he was going to shoot, the Englishman shot Ben White.

The Brighton plug was shipped straight to the sausage shop. Rashford put the ball on goal with his left foot.

– Cold as ice. It is cutting edge work of the highest quality, said TV 2 commentator Øyvind Alsaker.

Rescued from the posts

Brighton was by far the best team in the first half. Although the Red Devils rose after the break, Brighton also looked sharper in the second half.

But he just wouldn’t be in front of the home team’s goal.

In all, Brighton hit the wood five times. Leandro Trossard hit the post twice before the 20 minutes were played, Adam Webster headed off the crossbar ten minutes later and Solly March hit the inside of the post after the hour played.

After 76 minutes, Trossard threw the ball into goal. Expert commentator Petter Myhre could hardly believe what he saw from Amex Stadium.

– When have we seen something similar? Five on the metal, it’s extreme. Brighton has been very unlucky, he said.

All five shots to the post aside, Brighton would still have led the shooting statistics. The home team pushed hard for the draw towards the end of the match.

– Talk about holding on to the ropes, Myhre said of Manchester United when the team was pushed back.
