After becoming Manchester United’s great hero with two goals in the turnaround operation against Southampton on Sunday, Edinson Cavani shared a post on Instagram with the caption “Thank you black.”
This has put the Uruguayan in danger of being punished for racism.
– The message was intended to be a warm greeting to a friend, and I thanked him for the congratulations after the game. The last thing he wanted to do was offend someone. I am completely against racism and deleted the message as soon as it was explained that it can be interpreted in another way. I will apologize, Cavani wrote in a press release Monday.
According to The Guardian, Cavani risks a three-game suspension.
The 33-year-old has the support of Manchester United.
– It is clear to us that there was absolutely no verbal intent behind Edinson’s message, and he deleted it as soon as he was informed that it might be misunderstood. Edinson has apologized. Manchester United and all of our players are involved in the fight against racism, says the club.
Cavani stands out with three goals and one goal in his first eight games for Manchester United. The forward came to the club for free following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
