On Tuesday afternoon, police shot and killed a man in his 30s at the disused Bolkesjø tourist hotel in Notodden.
The special unit is investigating the case.
Acting head of the East Norway investigation department in the Investigation Office, Helle Gulseth, says they are in an early phase of the investigation and are working to chart the course of events.
– There are two people who have the status of suspects. They were both questioned last night. We continue with the questioning of officials and witnesses today, he says.
The special unit has seized service weapons belonging to the police.
Weapon finds
Confirm that firearms were found in the deceased’s home.
– Firearms have been seized, but I cannot comment on what type or how many, he says.
For the sake of the investigation, he cannot comment on how many shots were fired or if warning shots were fired. Gulseth is also unable to say anything about the man’s prior criminal record.
Police Chief Ole Bredrup Sæverud told Dagbladet on Wednesday morning that two police patrols, four officers, were dispatched to the scene after a report that the man was behaving in a threatening manner. It is unclear if one of the patrols arrived a little later.
Gulseth cannot confirm whether the man had an ax when police arrived at the scene, as witnesses have described.
– Priority problem
It is too early to say anything about what the police officers said during questioning, he explains.
Gulseth explains that it is a priority case when someone dies as a result of the police service actions.
