A man has been rescued from the Skagerrak. He sailed under the Swedish flag and said he was an asylum seeker.

– We are working to verify who it is, but we do not have any final identification. I understand that the communication is in poor English, says the operations manager in the Agder police district, Sveinung Alsaker.

There must have been a boat passing by and called the sailboat adrift. Soon after, the Main Rescue Center (HRS) contacted the cargo ship Hagland Boss, which was four miles away.

“We were just going to check to see if there were people in the boat, and then we saw a man standing and waving,” says Alfred Andreassen, the captain on board the cargo ship.

In addition to a man waving, they also saw a Swedish flag on the ship.

– It was a little difficult to talk to him because he had no radio or equipment, so we had to call. He spoke poor Swedish and not English. We finally take it to our boat, says Andreassen.

According to the captain, the man should have sailed from Sweden, but ended up operating on the Skagerrak for a few days.

– Could not change the sails due to bad weather. He was tired and tired after getting on and off in a small bathtub for two days, says the captain.

– We take you on board in the safest way possible. I was happy to get on board, because I was tired.

It was to the crew of the cargo ship that he said he was an asylum seeker.

– He mentioned it to us, that’s why we transmitted it to HRS.

No clarification on additional HRS support

Police and HRS return to the country on Friday night with the man. Your health must be good.

– I am informed that health is so good that we do not have to send health personnel, says operations manager Alsaker.

But he has been at sea for a while. We are not talking about hours to put it that way.

Police say they don’t know anything about the man’s identity. They say he only speaks bad English.

The sailboat is towed to shore.
