On Monday, around 7 pm, the police received a report of loud noise and screaming from a block of flats in the Kroken district of Tromsø. The message was that a man tried to break a glass porch with a lawn chair. When the police entered the apartment, they first had to take control of a man who threatened with a knife.

– Pepper spray and electroshock weapons were used to gain control. On the porch we found a seriously injured man, says Operations Director Roy Tore Meyer in the Troms Police District.

The man has now been transferred to the Northern Norwegian University Hospital.

The perpetrator is also 50 years old and is suspected of having suffered serious bodily injury with a knife.

Knowledge of the police

The person who has been arrested has been known to the police before and has been involved in cases of violence, Meyer says. The injured person is also an alleged police acquaintance.

– Now we will start with the technical investigations on the site. Eventually, there will also be questioning of those involved, Meyer says.

The police have conducted technical investigations into the apartment and are working on a survey of the neighborhood looking for people who may have seen something significant.

– But we still don’t have an overview of the course of events inside the apartment.

Kroken is a district of Tromsø located on the mainland side.

The police still do not know the cause and the relationship between the two men.

– We do not have a complete description of the extent of the damage, but the patrol team reports serious damage. There is a suspicion of using a knife, says the operations manager.

UNN press officer Jørn Resvoll tells NRK that they will not report on the patient’s updated status.

– We must guarantee the anonymity of the patient. In this case, some outlets have written such detailed information about the place where the incident occurred that the danger of identifying the patient is great, says Resvoll.
