The case is being updated.

At 11:33 p.m. on Monday evening, the police were notified that a man had disappeared from an institution in Ålen. Finally a search operation was launched.

Shortly before 0800 hours on Tuesday morning, the police confirm that the missing man has been found alive.

Essential tips

Norwegian rescue dog crews, Red Cross crews, fire service drones, police dogs and two police patrols have contributed to the nightly search through Tuesday and Tuesday morning.

Installation of a Sea King helicopter was also considered, but there was too much fog in the morning.

At 07:42, the police received a decisive warning from the public.

– A lady called us and told us that her husband had taken a look at a person on the route of the ski lifts in the Ålen ski area. We dispatched the fire brigade drone and by 07.48 the drone had found it, says police operations manager Frank Brevik.

Call of roses

He has no doubt that the case could have had a tragic outcome had it not been for the vigilante neighbors. From night to Tuesday it must have rained, windy and a few degrees more in Ålen.

– This is a fantastic effort on the part of the search teams and the awakened neighbors who saw it, says Operations Manager Brevik.

He says the man who was missing is now getting the medical attention he needs.
