– It was very, very difficult. Both for our son and for us. It’s a terrible accident that should never have happened, says the mother of the 22-year-old being charged.

The criminal case against the son has been ongoing in the Lister District Court for several weeks.

He is accused of driving and killing Daisy May Tran while he was drunk. It is also said that he left her and the injured friend in a state of helplessness on the night of June 2 last year.

His parents have been present in court the entire time.

The same goes for the father of the late Daisy.

The 22-year-old’s mother says she feels for the family:

– When I know how painful I I have it, so I don’t dare to think about how hurt Daisy’s family is. And she who was injured. All your friends.

The son denies his criminal guilt and says he does not recall driving the five miles in question.

He was shocked when his son was incarcerated

A group of friends from Stavanger went to work on a farm in Hægebostad on the first weekend of June last year.

Daisy May Tran and her friend were going for a walk but did not return. In the morning, friends found them on the gravel road.

For twenty minutes they tried to revive Daisy, who was dead.

Police thought they had been beaten up and called a perpetrator who must have escaped.

But nobody showed up.

Twenty days after the accident, the now 22-year-old defendant was summoned to question witnesses. What he told police did not match other leads they were on.

This Friday he was charged with perjury. He was imprisoned.

– We were surprised that they accused him of a false explanation. Never I think about this. So you can talk about the mother’s heart being broken in two, the mother tells NRK.

The son was released the following Monday.

– That weekend is the worst I have lived in my whole life.

He says he doesn’t remember

Police still approached the media and asked the perpetrator to report.

No response.

On October 9, the 22-year-old was charged with driving the car that hit the women.

The family has a hut higher up in Urestadveien, where the women were found. Tonight the sister was having a party there and the police think he was on his way.

It was his mother who called him at eight thirty in the morning to find out if she had found out about the accident. He had previously testified about this in court.

The defendant claims he was lying at home sleeping, about 30 miles from the scene. But prints from his mobile phone show he was in his car in Snartemo when the accident occurred, according to police.

– It hurts for everyone

– I really wish this had never happened, no matter what happened. Because I do not know. I do not know what happened.

– How was following the trial?

– It has been terribly difficult to listen to all of Daisy’s friends who have testified. It is a tension.

There are small conditions where the family lives. However, the local community has shown love:

– I experience a lot of consideration from friends, family and acquaintances. I don’t feel anything hurt.

– What do you think in the future if he is convicted?

– I do not know what to think. We have the opportunity to take a day off.

Don’t feel hate

The late Daisy’s father, Dang Nguyen Tran, has traveled from France to pursue the case. In court, he is sitting a few meters from the 22-year-old who is accused.

– I don’t feel any hatred for him. But I expected an apology during the trial.

Not arrived.

The 22-year-old maintains he does not remember anything other than going to bed and waking up the next morning. Remember his mother’s call.

Tran says he would have peace if he had an apology and an acknowledgment.

– Now I just have to wait for the verdict.
