The 51-year-old man comes from the post of Army commander, where he has been since August.

– I am very grateful for the confidence, it is a great responsibility to become the main military commander in an uncertain moment of security policy. I look forward to embarking on the task and further developing the Defense, ”says Kristoffersen.

Kristoffersen has prior experience with the Special Forces, the operational headquarters for the Armed Forces, the National Guard, as well as long experience in a series of international operations.

In 2011, he was awarded the War Cross with Swords, the highest ranked award in Norway.

– Kristoffersen has left a clear mark of where he has been. He has shown very good results in the Armed Forces Special Forces and as HV Commander. In his short time as Army commander, he has ensured that the development of Finnmark Land Defense is now ahead of schedule, says Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (H).

Haakon Bruun-Hanssen, who turns 60 in July, retires after nearly seven years as chief of defense. He will remain in office until August.
