Denies criminal guilt
Now the partner is charged with aggravated assault resulting in death and, according to the indictment, the 38-year-old man is said to have pushed Johansen to fall on a sofa, before lying on the partner and pressing him against his neck for as long time he died.
– The description of the course of events is in accordance with my client’s explanation. But she does not admit guilt. He did not think at all that the comrade should die, says the defendant’s defender Kjetil Krokeide to VG.
Johansen’s autopsy report showed that he died of suffocation.
The 38-year-old man has previously explained that after the roof of the basket he took his dead friend to a terrace adjacent to the house. This is where they found him, 13 days after his death.
– He panicked and didn’t know what to do, says Krokeide.
The man was originally charged with premeditated murder and was held in custody for six months.
Five days have been set aside for the case when it opens in Vesterålen District Court on September 28.
– It will hardly be particularly pleasant, but he also wants to finish it, says the defender about how his client sees the court.
State Attorney Jorild Steindal is the prosecutor on the case. So far he has not been available to comment on the case.
Tip of the murder victim
The 38-year-old is also accused of stealing money from his deceased friend. Police believe the defendant must have used the victim’s phone to transfer money through Vipps multiple times during the days when Johansen lay dead on his porch.
– He pleads guilty to this crime. He thinks he did it stupidly, says Krokeide.
Assistant Attorney Stian Auglend represents the deceased’s mother.
– She is relieved that an indictment has finally been issued in the case after a very long processing time. She looks forward to the end of the case and the accused now being held responsible for causing the death of her son. Beyond this, she just wants peace in the family, Auglend tells VG.
VG has been in contact with welfare attorney John-Petter Karlsen, who represents the deceased’s son and the son’s mother. You do not want to comment on the topic.
