Low pressure in a row

The “winter” in southern Norway was short-lived.

– It’s back to normal fall weather, with consecutive low pressure, says state meteorologist Pernille Borander at the Dagbladet Meteorological Institute.

– And it will be soft again, he adds.

Snow Hazard Warning

Borander speaks of a “new meteorological situation”, after a cold period in both the north and the south.

18 centimeters of snow!

18 centimeters of snow!

What characterizes it is rain, wind, and mild weather.

– Everybody gets a little. Now we are back to low pressure from the sea, with soft air and precipitation. Southern Norway takes a break on Friday from the rainfall, and maybe some sunshine, in the north it will be more unstable with rainfall and snow in Finnmark.

Further north, a hazard warning has been issued for Friday, with 20-30 centimeters of snow in 24 hours in areas above 200 meters.

Wet mix of rain

Especially in western Norway, the wind increases from Friday night to Saturday.

– It begins to calm down in the north beyond Saturday, but then begins in the south. On Saturday, there will be a strong south wind off the west coast of Norway, says Borander.

On Sunday, expect a strong gale from the south towards the Oslo Fjord, and rain is increasing in southern Norway. Since the night of Sunday and Monday, the low pressures appear in the northern areas of the country.

– Then it will be a mixture of sleet and rain, she says.

The Epsilon factor

– From the beginning of next week, it seems that it is not so bad in the north, but there will still be overland winds and some rain, especially in western Norway.

Then another low pressure occurs. It originates from the Epsilon storm center, which is now near Bermuda, but is moving in the direction of Norway.

“Iceland and the UK are getting the worst of it, but there may be some wind, especially for southern Norway around the middle of next week,” says Borander.

At the same time, he emphasizes that so far in the future there are more uncertain forecasts, which will be more uncertain when it comes to tropical storms.

Both the Meteorological Institute and the Meteorological Storm Center report good weather with sunshine in the northwest and in Trøndelag for the next week.

Some kind of bright spot

According to Borander, autumn weather in a negative sense is now ahead of us.

– Yes, I think we can say that, but for those who think that it has started to get a little cold, winter has not yet arrived.

– Is it some kind of bright spot?

– Yes, in a way, says Pernille Borander with a chuckle.
