The gyms in Bærum are bracing for the fact that many may defy the encouragement of the Minister of Health and travel from Oslo to train in the neighboring municipality.
Asker and Bærum chose not to copy Oslo’s crown measures and kept both gyms and nightclubs open. On Tuesday, gyms in the capital closed and Health Minister Bent Høie (H) has been clear on the question of whether it is okay to travel from Oslo to Bærum to exercise:
– That is not right.
However, training chains Fresh Fitness and Sats have chosen to prepare for the fact that a wave may come from Oslo. They both offer memberships that involve access to all of their gyms in Norway.

Several SATS and Fresh Fitness centers are located across the municipal limits, including in Sandvika, Bekkestua and Østerås. In some of them there have been long lines during the day.
Queues are a sign of health, says Mayor Lisbeth Hammer Krog (H). So far, he has seen nothing to a violent wave of training enthusiasts from the capital.
– I received a comment that there were more people than usual in Fornebu this morning, and a general inquiry from someone who did not like the new rules. Otherwise, there has been little comment, he tells VG.

SATS press contact Malin Selander says the same: No noticeable increase. But she believes they are prepared if that happens.
– We comply with the distance requirements and limit the number of people to maintain that distance, and we ensure good hygiene and washing equipment. We also have additional infection protectors to ensure that all infection control routines are followed. We lock the doors if there are many in the center, and then it may be necessary for someone to wait outside until someone has left. This is how we have worked since June 15, he says.
For any citizen of Oslo considering using gyms in the neighboring municipality, she says the following:

The mayor of Bærum says that the municipality is closely following the gyms and that this is one of the areas they will focus on in the future. The first inspections begin this week.
It also emphasizes the basis for the municipality’s assessment.
– We have not been able to document that there was an infection in our gyms, says Hammer Krogh.
The mayor and city director defied the advice of city doctor Frantz Leonhard Nilsen when they decided to keep the gyms open.
– In our revised inspection plan related to the risk of infection, we have defined gyms as companies with a particularly high risk of spreading infections and will give priority to the supervision of gyms, Nilsen tells Budstikka.
The newspaper has also spoken to several Oslo citizens who confirm that they have chosen to make the journey across the municipal border for training.
VG has sent Health Minister Høie questions about whether he is considering intervening in Bærum as he threatened to do for Oslo. Høie had the following responses:
– I have not had the opportunity to familiarize myself with all the decisions of Asker and Bærum. In general, they seem to follow Oslo, although it is not identical to what I have encouraged. We will evaluate the general panorama of coordination between municipalities when all municipalities in the area have made their decisions.
