LO union announces boycott of Wizz Air

– When Wizz Air closes the door on the union movement and a decent organized working life, we close the door on them, says Alfheim, who runs Industri Energi with around 56,000 members in the onshore and offshore industry.

It is reacting strongly to statements by Wizz Air CEO József Váradi this week that Wizz Air “is an airline without a union.” Váradi’s statement came when the company presented its plans for domestic routes in Norway.

– It is totally unheard of in the Norwegian context. József Váradi wants Norwegian clients, but not Norwegian culture. Such dishonest actors are not welcome. Therefore, we have a travel policy that our employees will not fly on these routes, Alfheim tells VG.

Wizz Air announced Tuesday that it will launch domestic routes from Oslo to three cities. The company has made it clear that it will not enter into collective agreements with unions. The Norwegian Pilots Association is skeptical:

– We recorded that the Wizz Air manager in interviews refuses to enter into collective bargaining agreements with unions. In Norway, we do not shy away from social responsibility, but rather follow the normal rules of the game for working life. I guess Wizz Air contributes to healthy competition based on social responsibility, Norwegian Pilots Association leader Yngve Carlsen told NTB earlier this week.
