Liverpool appeared to take all three points against bottom West Bromwich. Sadio Mané scored first, but nine minutes before the end Semi Ajayi stabbed the tie from a corner.
The hosts completely dominated in the first half, but made it much more difficult after the break.
Then it was bad that midfielder Jöel Matip had to leave due to injury after the hour. Rhys Williams, 19, became his understudy.
