Donald Trump’s press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, will hold a press conference at 11:15 p.m. Norwegian time. This was announced a few minutes before the briefing.
Trump was banned from various social media after violent congressional unrest on Wednesday night. He made several messages on Twitter, some of them deleted, others allegedly “flagged” by, among other things, accusations of electoral fraud.
McEnany makes a statement on behalf of the White House:
– Let me be clear: the violence we saw in Congress was repulsive, incomprehensible, and incompatible with American values. We strongly condemn this. It is unacceptable and those who break the law should be punished accordingly. He was standing here on the podium the day after a historic church caught fire after a historic uprising. And I said this: freedom of expression guarantees the right of the people to assemble peacefully, but what we saw was not like that.
13 days to go. This can happen
– Make no mistake, what we saw in the halls of Congress was not.
– We take care of the wounded and dead, and we keep them in our hearts. We thank the police and the guards, they are true heroes. What we saw was a group that violated the law in the constitution and destroyed the many thousands who peacefully visited the capital. Those who turned violent went against everything this administration stands for. All citizens have the right to live in peace and security. Now America must stand together and condemn the violence we have seen. We are one.
McEnany then left the podium without receiving questions or speaking to the press.
On Thursday night, Trump was banned from Twitter.
“As a result of the enormous and continuing violence in Washington, DC, we have had to delete three of Donald Trump’s Twitter messages from today after repeated serious violations of our guidelines,” the company wrote on Twitter.
Later, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat have done the same.
