Large water leak: people pour water into houses

The fire service is working to pump water from basements to 8-10 homes.

(Warns Oslo): A major water leak was reported at Bjørnveien in Slemdal around 8pm on Tuesday. Breaking a water pipe, to put it mildly, creates humid road conditions and affects many homes.

The fire brigade was quickly set up with crews and equipment.

– We have had a larger hookah that has been smoked. Now it’s closed, but there are a good number of basements that are filled with water, says Marius Johansen, emergency manager for Oslo’s fire and rescue service.

For NTB, on-duty commander Tor Audunhus of the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service (OBRE) says that sewage may also have entered basements.

– Some houses have water in the basement and the sewage may have mixed with the water, says Audunhus.

The fire service is now working to get the water out of the houses.

– We don’t have a complete description yet, but there are 8 to 10 houses that have been affected and have water in their basements, says Johansen.

The water and sewer department is in place with people to locate the leak. There must be old pipes in the area.
