The landslide in Gjerdrum is a major and serious disaster, says Mayor Anders Østensen (Labor). More than 100 people have been evacuated.

– People who don’t come out are rescued by helicopter and it’s dramatic. It’s a big landslide zone, the mayor told Romerikes Blad on Wednesday morning.

He says the landslide, which was notified to emergency services at 03.59pm on Wednesday night, has occurred in a large residential area.

Between 150 and 200 have been evacuated, the mayor told NRK.

Evid Døhlen is one of the evacuees. He was awakened by firefighters.

– Firefighters arrived and knocked on the door. They said that the whole neighborhood had left and that a helicopter picked up people. They said there had been a landslide and there was a danger of landslides nearby, Døhlen tells rb.no.

Ahus ready to receive patients

Several are injured, Romerikes Blad reports. Several people will be transferred to the hospital.

It was the night before Wednesday that a landslide occurred in Ask in the municipality of Gjerdrum.

– The situation is confusing and all emergency services are connected, the municipality announced on its website, stating that the manor house functions as a temporary collection point and evacuees are transported to the Olavsgård hotel.

At 5 o’clock, the Eastern Police District announced the landslide on Twitter. By then, emergency services were already on the scene and the public was asked to keep their distance.
