Landslide: – House with possible missing moved 400 meters

The fire service is continuously working to locate the houses where the ten missing people may be after the landslide disaster.

– It’s a big task. Those that are missing may be inside some of the houses. The houses we’re talking about have moved up to 400 meters and it’s difficult to locate, says operations manager Morten Thorsen at Romerike’s fire and rescue service.

– These are multi-family dwellings that have added to the landslide and have dropped a lot. Our hope, work and priority are there.

Ready to drink

On Wednesday, the Swedish Wear teams arrived in Gjerdrum. These are experts at getting into collapsed houses. Together with crews from Romerike and Oslo, they are ready to enter the area when conditions permit.

At the moment, it is too dangerous to enter the area on foot and the landslide is still continuing, according to NVE. There is also the danger that several houses that are on the edge of the edge of the avalanche will collapse.

– We make a plan to see if we have any chance to get them to the landslide area. They arrived last night and they are ready when we have a plan in place and when it is safe enough. That is not the case currently.

I hope to find people alive

However, the leader of the police task force, Roger Pettersen, is aware that a rescue operation is still underway and that there is still hope of finding people alive.

– We are in an important phase and we use daylight, but we are looking for survivors. It is important for us to clarify.

The police work, among other things, with mobile tracking, mapping of homes and up to ten missing people, he says.

In the collapse area you can see remains of houses, belongings, cars and objects that belong to different housing units, says the leader of the task.

On Thursday night, a missing dog was rescued from the area.

– There are probably more domestic animals in these other evacuation areas. We understand that owners are concerned, but we urge them to contact the police for their handling and we do not want them to take their own initiative to reach the pets.
