On Tuesday night, Eirin Sund, leader of the Rogaland Labor Party nominating committee, reported that Hamza Ali is no longer a candidate in the 2021 parliamentary elections.

On Wednesday, Dagbladet realizes that the cause is a disease:

– I have undergone a medical examination, and the result of that is the reason why I now withdraw my candidacy. To avoid speculation about the cause, I want the party and I to be open about it, Hamza Ali writes in a press release.

Ali was AUF Rogaland’s preferred candidate and was in a split position nominated for fourth place on the list.

In this way, he could become the first permanent parliamentary representative of African origin.

Ali, who is a member of the Sola municipal council and deputy leader in education and culture, has been described as one of the Labor Party’s greatest political talents.

The main candidate is Hadia Tajik, while the second candidate is Torstein Tvedt Solberg.

– Applying to the Storting is a huge obligation and a great responsibility. I am grateful and honored to be a proposed candidate. The motivation and joy for this has been great, says Ali in the press release.
