– I resigned from KrF because the party is no longer a Christian Democratic party, but a conservative Christian party, says Simen Bondevik.

Bondevik has been the county leader of the Christian People’s Party youth organization. There he has also sat on the central board and is the only elected representative of the party in the municipality of Nordre Follo.

Earlier this year, Bondevik said no to a Storting seat because he thought the party was moving in the wrong direction. Today he resigned from the party, precisely because of that.

– One of the things that made me join KrF is the motto “A society with space for everyone”. But I have the experience that KrF has not lived up to its own motto, says Bondevik.

He believes the party has departed from its own values in the field of climate, Moria refugees and the LGBT issue.

– I don’t want to be part of a party that fails the climate strikes, that fails the children in Moria and that fails the LGBT people.

KrF leader Kjell Ingolf Ropstad did not have a chance to comment on the resignation tonight.

Took a step to the right

Simen Bondevik believes that the party has become a Christian conservative party and has taken a step to the right.

Before that, KrF fought for a decent public debate. Now I experience that instead of settling for the kind of rhetoric we have seen in Listhaug, you lie along the same lines.

Bondevik believes he no longer wants to be part of the direction the party has taken after Knut Arild Hareide resigned as party leader. He joined the party at age 13 in 2013.

After KrF decided to enter into a government collaboration with the Conservatives, Liberals and the Liberal Party, Bondevik considered joining the party.

– I considered opting out after the election of the address. Where KrF chose Sylvi Listhaug over Knut Arild Hareide. But I chose to continue fighting for the causes I believe in. Now I experience that KrF has developed in a completely wrong direction, he says.

Simen Bondevik says his political commitment is as great as ever. Now he wants to end his relationship with KrF in an orderly manner, before moving on to something new.
