German police are following the protest march with argumentative eyes. Authorities fear that the protest march could unleash a new wave of infection in Berlin.

Many of the protesters do not follow the police request to maintain a social distance.

On Saturday afternoon, the police try to stop the demonstration.

– Protesters do not respect the rule of keeping their distance, even after several requests, police report.

– We have no other choice, the protest must stop, says the police according to the AFP news agency.

I would stop the demonstration

On Saturday afternoon, the first sign came that the police would stop the demonstration.

There are many indications that the protesters will not respect the request of the police.

Berlin authorities wanted to ban the march for fear of violating infection control rules, but the ban was lifted after organizers went to court and were confirmed.

The court ruled that the protest action could not be prohibited.

It is a very “heterogeneous” assembly that participates in the protest march.

Among the groups are conspiracy theorists, vaccine opponents, and far-right and far-left groups in German politics.

Heinz says they tease him in a way that he doesn’t want to live. This is how the Indians of America were treated in his time. That’s why he wears a Native American costume.

Most take part in the protest because they firmly oppose the government dictating how people should live.

NRK in Berlin meets Heinz, who is dressed in a Native American costume.

– I am dressed like that because they treat us in the same way as Indians in the United States. They were pushed into an entirely new way of life when Europeans conquered America, Heinz says.

Heinz doesn’t wear face masks like the Germans must do when they hang out with many others.

The German police will fine people 50 euros if they move among many others without wearing a mask.

The NRK journalist in Berlin received a lot of comments and skewed looks due to the use of face masks.

NRK correspondent Roger Sevrin Bruland is present during the demonstration in Berlin.

Four weeks ago, tens of thousands of people from all over Germany took part in a similar demonstration. The police dissolved it as many did not wear masks or maintain the required distance from other participants.

Berlin State Interior Minister Andreas Geiser wanted to ban similar protests for fear that the same thing would happen again.
