Jærbuen is the youngest to receive the most generous award in Norwegian football. Traditionally, it is aimed at people much older than Haaland, but the jury believes that few have met the criteria better than the Borussia Dortmund professional.

It was a surprised and pleased Haaland who received the honorary award in Qatar. There he has been training lately after a thigh injury.

– I had no idea, actually. It was a nice surprise. He’s standing firm with me, and I’m just proud. This is something that I, as a Norwegian, appreciate. It has been a good year and this is a free motivation to work even harder and take the next step in your career, Haaland said during the Football Party at Eurosport Norway.

Good representative

The young man has had a spectacular year. Since moving to Dortmund in January, he has scored 33 goals in 32 games with the club. Along the way, he has broken several records, both in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League.

– The board’s assessment was that Haaland, despite his young age, meets the statute criteria very well and, over time, has been an exceptionally good representative of Norwegian top-level football, says the chairman of the jury and President Cato Haug of Norwegian Top Football.
