With the electoral victory, Kamala Harris will historically be the first woman vice president of the United States. But her husband, Douglas Emhoff, also makes history as America’s first “second man.”
Emhoff is a partner at the DLA Piper Law Firm and has built a career as a recognized attorney in the entertainment industry.
Now he is freezing his law practice and dedicating himself to becoming America’s “second gentleman.”
Met on a “blind date”
Although Kamala Harris has become a familiar face to many Norwegians, the same cannot be said for her husband.
Douglas Emhoff and Kamala Harris met on a “blind date” arranged by one of Harris’s close friends. The first date must have gone very well, because the next day Emhoff sent Harris an email, in which he wrote that he liked her very much.
They got engaged almost a year later, on March 27, 2014.
Social media gives the impression that Emhoff is a proud and supportive husband. His Twitter profile is full of campaign material, which he shares or tweets to his 513,000 followers. The wife is also clearly visible on her Instagram account, long before she ran as a presidential candidate in the nomination campaign and later as a vice presidential candidate.
Such is his new life
– Very proud of you, Emhoff wrote on Twitter when it became known that Biden and Harris won the election.
Will continue as teacher
The wife of incoming US President Joe Biden, Jill Biden, says she wants to continue working as a teacher at Northern Virginia Community College. She also worked here while her husband was vice president of Barack Obama.
The 69-year-old former teacher has been married to the Democratic presidential candidate since 1977.
Jill Biden has two master’s degrees, which she earned while teaching English to young people in a mental hospital. He later earned a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, which he presented in 2007.
This is the new first lady
She has been an English teacher at Northern Virginia Community College since 2009, making her the most educated first lady in American history.
