It’s about to turn into a storm on the west coast. Leave the ship, warns the Meteorological Institute.
Low pressure on the way from Iceland will soon hit the coast of Vestland County. In the next few hours, the wind will start to pick up, before it can turn into a strong or full storm on Monday afternoon.
Full storm means between 24.5 and 28.4 meter seconds, while strong storms are between 28.5 and 32.6 meter seconds. The areas around Stad are more exposed.
– There has not been such a strong storm since April, so it is a clear sign that we have entered the fall season. It’s just a matter of plucking up the courage, says on-duty meteorologist Pernille Borander at the Meteorological Institute.
Lots of rain was expected in various places
The meteorologist explains that the wind is called coastal parallel, that is, it will not blow as hard inland. But on the coast you will clearly feel:
– There can be a lot of swell and a lot of sea, so we recommend that you do not go out in a small boat and consider leaving the boat when it is so windy, says Borander.
Ask boat owners and people on shore to heed gale warnings from the Meteorological Institute.
The strongest wind will calm down overnight. At the same time, much of the country must prepare for a generally wet week.
– It can reach up to 40 millimeters in 24 hours, perhaps a little more in exposed areas. It has not been evaluated as a hazard warning, but we are monitoring it, says the meteorologist.
Most of the rainfall will occur in western Norway and Nordland, but there will also be some scattered rain in the eastern mountains and in Troms and Finnmark.
– But it is clear that Vestland, Nordland and Trøndelag are more exposed due to the direction of the wind, says Borander.
