Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford exposed on social media.
Reactions were not long in coming after Pickford tackled Liverpool stopper Virgil van Dijk in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
Van Dijk suffered a serious knee injury as a result of the tackle and may be at risk of missing the rest of the season.
He is not unexpectedly unpopular with Liverpool supporters and many have expressed frustration on social media after the match.
However, there are some who have crossed the line and are coming straight against Pickford.

Investigated by the police
The Mirror writes that the police are now investigating some of the hate speech that is said to have targeted the Everton goalkeeper and Everton forward Richarlison.
The latter was also the center of attention during Saturday’s game between Liverpool and Everton after he incurred a direct red card for a poor tackle against Thiago Alcantara.
A police spokesman says they are now investigating a series of Twitter messages directed at the two Everton players.
– The language used in these Twitter messages is totally unacceptable and we take it very seriously. Those who use the Internet to attack others and who come up with threats or hate crimes do not follow the law, police say.
The spokesperson further says that investigators are now working to identify the people who have made such Twitter messages and that will have consequences.

Carragher defends Pickford
Pickford has received much criticism from various experts for what is described as a “headless” tackle against van Dijk in Saturday’s deal.
As Nettavisen wrote on Monday, former Liverpool stopper Jamie Carragher thought the goalkeeper had deserved a red card, but at the same time takes the player on defense.
– There will be a lot of frustration on the Liverpool field, amongst Liverpool supporters and perhaps neutrals who believe Pickford should be sanctioned and who believe this was a terrible tackle.
– You have to be careful with that and I will defend Pickford when it comes to this. I broke my leg, I almost broke Nani’s leg. Unfortunately, these things happen in soccer, says Carragher.
Liverpool have not given a date for when they expect Van Dijk to return to the football field.
