Joe Biden’s dogs are Champ (12) and Major (2). The latter has been adopted from a homeless dog kennel, sparking great excitement among animal lovers across the United States, writes The New York Times.
When Biden is inaugurated as the next president of the United States on January 20, he will resume a tradition of pets in the presidential residence. Donald Trump refused to give away a dog when he assumed the presidency in 2016, according to The Washington Post.
Trump has later said he doesn’t have time for a dog.

Tweeting about dogs
Unlike Trump, Joe Biden has proven himself many times to be a true animal lover. He was still tweeting about his dogs.
“Some Americans celebrate #NationalCatDay, others celebrate #NationalDogDay,” he wrote. me and tweet. “President Trump is not celebrating either side. That says a lot. It’s time to bring pets back into the White House.”
The White House has sometimes become the cleanest zoo. President Theodore Roosevelt owned cats and dogs, snakes, guinea pigs and a one-legged rooster, according to Jennifer B. Pickens, author of the book Pets at the White House.
– Americans have always had pets. So the White House has always had pets, Pickens said.
Obama had Portuguese water dogs
President Barack Obama and his family had Portuguese water dogs Bo and Sunny as family members in the White House. They were well loved, even though Sunny once overthrew a two-year-old guest.
President Clinton had a chocolate brown lab named Buddy and a cat named Socks. While John F. Kennedy once received the white dog Pushinka, as a gift from Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev.

One of the most special animals in the White House was a raccoon named Rebecca who was sent to President Calvin Coolidge to be served as a Thanksgiving dinner. In November 1926, President Coolidge pardoned the raccoon and adopted it.
– Pets make the chair human and help people to relate to their owners. Dogs become a welcoming “accessory” and provide companionship when presidents have tough decisions to make, says Jennifer Pickens.
