Total stop in Austria

The new Norwegian team must travel from their respective clubs in their respective countries to Gardermoen in the first instance and check into a hotel at the airport to be part of the NFF’s infection control regime, before everyone heads to Vienna. The plan has been approved by the Norwegian Health Directorate and the Ministry of Health, according to the NFF.

The reason Norwegian troops cannot travel directly to Vienna, as the NFF wanted, is the strict entry rules into Austria. The Austrian government is introducing a total closure of the company from Tuesday. This means curfews, closed stores, and restrictions on how many can meet in a private context.

The match between Austria and Norway’s “emergency national team” in front of the empty stands will continue. However, the European Football Association (Uefa) has confirmed that Wednesday’s match will not be affected. Austria beat Northern Ireland 2-1 on Sunday night and leads the table three points ahead of Norway. Norwegian soccer masters can win the group if Austria is defeated by two goals or more.

A victory by one goal can also be valid for Norway if more goals are scored than in the 2-1 victory of the Austrians in the opposite settlement at Ullevaal Stadium. It is the guest’s agreement that decides and not the group’s full goal difference, where Norway is in a special class with eight more goals against Austria’s three.

Acting coach Leif Gunnar Smerud is excited about what the newly formed Norwegian national team can achieve.

– It has been a hectic activity to bring a squad, and it has become a good squad. It’s been nice to see the way the players have responded to this, Smerud said at Monday’s press conference.

– Despite a special entrance, I hope to meet the players, who in a chaotic situation have responded with great good will to help the team in a demanding situation. Now it’s about preparing for a good performance against Austria, says Smerud.

– These have been demanding evaluations, but now we are happy that the match can be played, both sportingly and out of consideration of our obligations to UEFA and the tournament in which we participate. The boys themselves and their clubs have been very positive to line up on short notice. to complete this match, adds Secretary General Pål Bjerketvedt.

The players who have now been eliminated will meet in Oslo. They then travel together on a charter flight to Austria on Tuesday.
