The last thing Christina Brenden and her family saw of their home was that it floated on the edge where the landslide hit the neighborhood. Now the house has collapsed, he says.

Published:

– The 3-year-old constantly mentions that the house collapsed and asks “what about our Christmas tree?”, Christina Brenden (29) tells VG.

Early Wednesday morning, Brend woke up to several unanswered calls and a message from his sister that there had been a landslide at their home in Gjerdrum in Romerike in Viken County. She and her family of four were at Sjusjøen’s cabin.

“I didn’t realize first that it was exactly where we live,” he says.

Then the family saw that almost the entire neighborhood had been taken over by the powerful landslide. The garage, deck and driveway to the family home were torn down and the car was not visible.

Solberg: – A bad feeling.

Once again, only parts of the house rose and bowed completely to the edge of the avalanche.

– Now there are more and more houses, so I have no hope that he will stay. But it would have been nice if you could have saved some memories from there. It’s a bad situation to be in, says Brenden.

It was NRK who first mentioned the family situation.

GET AN OVERVIEW: We know this about the landslide at Gjerdrum.

– I don’t know very well if it occurred to me

– We try to watch television if our house is not there, but it is difficult to see. In any case, we should not go back to it, when there is such a danger of landslides, says Brenden.

Just before 7 pm, he tells VG that the family home collapsed.

She and her partner have gone to their parents’ home in Lillestrøm with their ten-month-old and three-year-old children.

– It’s completely unreal and surreal. I don’t know if I have already noticed. We haven’t been there and we’ve seen it with our own eyes, says Brenden.

So far he has spoken with one of the neighbors, the others with whom he has not yet had contact.

– Our closest neighbor was out. But there are still no neighbors. We think about them a lot. Most importantly, they find everyone alive, he says, adding:

– I hope nobody lies down there and dies of cold, it is absolutely cruel. When things like this happen at night, people sleep in their beds and you have to react pretty quickly.

– Won the lottery

Brenden is thankful that the family was in the cabin when the landslide occurred.

– You can only thank for that, you have won the lottery. You can see it that way and think that the house is material.

– There comes a time when you have to live a little differently and try to find your way back to everyday life.

The landslide area is estimated to be around 300 times 700 meters, according to NVE.

Children are among the people who are not yet considered.

-We still keep open the possibility that more people have evacuated, have not contacted the police, or are in the red zone where we are looking, he says.

He emphasizes that the rescue team is looking for survivors, not the dead.

So far, it has been confirmed that ten people were injured. According to the person in charge of the task, one of them was sent to the Ullevål hospital with serious injuries.

More than 900 people have been affected or evacuated in connection with the landslide, but the task leader emphasizes that the number is constantly changing.
