Omar Elabdellaoui (29) was injured by fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Galatasaray management reacts strongly to images of an injured Elabdellaoui leaked on social media, and now a doctor is commenting on the eye injuries suffered by the national team player.

The right-back, who plays for the big Turkish club Galatasaray, was taken to hospital Thursday night after fireworks were detonated in his hand. The 29-year-old also suffered injuries to his face, and these are obviously the biggest concerns.

– He has problems in both eyes, but the left eye is more damaged, said Dr. Vedat Kaya in a meeting with the Turkish press on Friday morning, according to Hürriyet.

He is one of the doctors who treated Elabdellaoui.

Considering surgery

– We are waiting to see how it develops, but it is better than yesterday. Our hospital has the best equipment and has treated similar cases before, he continued.

– You may need surgery. Now you can see, but it’s too early to say anything about the future, Kaya added.

The accident was a huge hit in most of the Turkish media on Thursday night and beyond Friday. Cumhuriyet was one of the first to report it.

The Norwegian Football Association refers to the club about the situation in Elabdellaoui.

“Questions about Omar should be directed to the club,” writes NFF’s director of communication and public relations, Gro Tvedt Anderssen, in an SMS to VG.

Burns

The club notified one statement about the incident. “He’s not in danger of death,” it rang.

– Omar Elabdellaoui was taken to hospital after an accident at his home. He has burns to his face and an eye injury that is being further investigated. More information will be provided in due course, but our player is conscious and the injuries are not life threatening, he says.

According to Hürriyet, Galatasaray Vice President Abdurrahim Albayrak, Coach Fatih Terim and Captain Arda Turan are all at Elabdellaoui hospital.

– An ambulance employee at the scene took photos and shared them on social media. It’s a shame, said the vice president, continuing:

– This person (Elabdellaoui) has three children and Galatasaray has 30 million fans. Our friend is loved by thousands of people, family and friends in this country. What kind of conscience is behind such an image? It’s a shame, right?

Albayrak warns that the episode will continue.

– We will follow this to the end. We won’t let this go, he said.

Help the family

Elabdellaoui should be treated for burns to her face. It is feared that the Norwegian’s vision will be impaired.

– His eyes are washed out and hopefully he will clear things up. Doctors do everything they can. After washing his eyes, we know the result, said the vice president of Galatasaray.

He later confirmed that the accident occurred at the defender’s home.

Elabdellaoui, 29, must have been conscious the entire time.

– I spoke with him and he said “thank you very much.” Friends from the club traveled to his home to help the family, Albayrak said.

Hard fall

It has not been an easy autumn for Elabdellaoui after the Greek Olympiakos signing. In November, it was his positive corona test that led to the entire squad of the national team being quarantined, so the Norwegian national league match against Romania was canceled and an “emergency national team” had to stack up for the decisive match against Austria.

The 29-year-old from Oslo developed at the Manchester City academy. After hiring at Strømsgodset, Feyenoord and Eintracht Braunschweig, he played one season for the German club and six for Olympiakos before becoming a player for Galatasaray last summer.

He also has a rental stay at English Hull behind him. He has 49 international appearances for Norway.
