The infection trend in Oslo is declining after weeks of rising and stagnant infection, the VG overview shows. This gives Health Councilor Robert Steen (Labor Party) reason to be a cautious optimist.

– This is first and foremost a recognition to the population of Oslo that they have managed to implement a physical distancing and a social reduction, says the health adviser Robert Steen (Labor) to VG.

For the first time during the second corona wave, the infection trend in the capital is declining, VG overview shows.

On Monday, 93 cases of infection were recorded, the VG summary shows, and thus the trend reversed after it had been increasing for a long time, before stabilizing last week. The trend is only reversed when the change is more than 15 percent, either more or less, compared to two weeks ago.

– But the work is not finished at all, emphasizes the health advisor Steen.

On Sunday, 79 new cases of infection were registered in Oslo, while on Saturday it was 112. On the two previous Mondays, 197 (16 November) and 165 (23 November) new cases of infection were registered in the capital, respectively. .

In the last week, 102,544 crown tests have been conducted in Norway, compared to 126,161 the previous week. 2.3 percent of tests were positive, a decrease of 0.5 compared to the week with 126,161 tests, the VG summary shows.

However, the test figures for week 48 in Oslo will not be released until Wednesday.

– It is important not to lower your shoulders

The social closure, which involves a series of measures in Oslo, will last until December 14.

With time before that, the city council has promised to provide indications of what will happen next.

– It is very important not to lower your shoulders. The numbers are still at a high level, roughly where we were when we first introduced social shutdown. That’s why we have to stay good, says Steen.

– But maybe this is a motivation?

– At least, this is proof that the measures have worked. It should be motivation for everyone to carry on a little bit longer so that we can bring the infection to a level that can make Christmas more enjoyable, he says.

– Have you quantified how low the infection must be before you can alleviate the measures?

– It is not about the number, but where the infection occurs. We have seen that some more overcrowded districts have had more infections, with infections uniformly across the city in the 20-29 age group, and gradually in upper secondary and upper secondary as well. What we can do with the measurements largely depends on where the infection occurs, Steen explains.

Here you can see the infection registered in Oslo from the start of the pandemic until now:

322 new cases of infection in Norway

At midnight on Friday, the VG summary showed a declining trend of infections in Norway. Deputy Director of Health Espen Rostrup Nakstad later stated that he indicated that national and local infection measures had an effect.

– The situation is still very vulnerable. It won’t be long before the arrows point up again, Nakstad warned.

There were 322 new cases of infection in Norway on Monday, 116 less than the average of the previous seven days. In Norway, a total of 36,150 cases of infection have been recorded. As of November 30, 128 had been admitted to Norwegian hospitals with COVID-19, while 332 deaths related to the pandemic had been recorded.

But despite the fact that the infection trend both in Oslo and at the national level is now declining, it continues to increase in 26 Norwegian municipalities.
