The prosecutor rejects everything Tor Mikkel Wara has said. He demands two years in prison for Laila Bertheussen and claims that she commits psychological violence. The couple had a bad day at court.

Former Justice Minister Tor Mikkel Wara (Frp) testified in court, although he is not required to testify. “Is there any conceivable possibility that she did, as you know her?” Asked state attorney Marit Formo. “Did not answer. “Is there anything to indicate that she may have been mentally unbalanced?” He continued. “Did not answer. Laila Bertheussen appeared Thursday morning with a new bag in court: “The girl who played with Elden,” it read, along with a picture of a halo emoji.

Are you trying to say that you are innocent? What has lived dangerously? Or that he has deceived his defender?

Prosecutor and prosecutor Frederik Ranke responded by demanding two years in prison.

He calls the claim conservative. But if the judges agree, this will be one of the harshest sentences for threats in Norwegian law.

“Imagine if it was an extreme political environment that was behind the threats. Think what verdict would have come then,” said prosecutor and prosecutor Frederik Ranke. Photo: Ole Berg-Rusten / NTB

At least Ranke doesn’t mean that that Bertheussen is an angel.

He highlighted both ruthless behavior and a cunning crusade against the theater, and believes that threats against cohabitant Tor Mikkel Wara border on psychological violence.

“In criminal law, it is ill will that must be severely punished. There is enough of that in this case,” he concluded.

Laila Bertheussen has been with former Justice Minister Tor Mikkel Wara since the 1990s. She chose to testify at the trial where she is accused of threats and “attacks on the activities of the highest organs of the State”, but the prosecution will ignore everything that he said in court. It wasn’t just Laila Bertheussen that the prosecution’s closing procedure went wrong.

Prosecutor Ranke says that everything Tor Mikkel Wara has said in court must be completely ignored.

The message is wrapped in sober prosecutorial language, but in reality it is a direct accusation of lies.

Prosecutors believe Wara has He toned down the threats and adapted his explanation, both in terms of footprints in the snow outside the house and the time he woke up with noises at night.

It is very serious. It is preferable that a former Minister of Justice does not lie in court.

In any case, Tor Mikkel Wara could not prevent that everything he said as an endangered justice minister is now being used to overthrow his partner. Photo: Ole Berg-Rusten / NTB

It is easy to understand which Impossible grip Tor Mikkel Wara has been after the partner was suspected of the murders against him. That is why people who live together do not have to testify against each other.

The message to the man who now lives off the sale of clever communication strategies was clear enough: he should shut up.

But Wara couldn’t anyway He avoided that everything he said as a minister of justice in danger, is now used to overthrow the cohabitant.

Prosecutor Ranke, for example, highlighted keywords such as “appalling facts”, “attacks on democracy”, “a chain connection between the facts”, “affects the job as minister”.

This is exactly what the prosecution wants to say: everything is connected and the threats are an attack on democracy, even if it was not intended.

“Hitting the theater was the goal, threatening Wara was the means,” Ranke summarized.

When he testified in court, Tor Mikkel Wara came up with strong criticism of the play “Ways to See” – The theater accused me of being a racist. The wall of the house accused me of being a racist. Both are statements against the policy I represent, he said when it was explained in court. Photo: Fred Ivar Utsi Klemetsen

There has been tension how high the penalty would be demanded by prosecutors.

The most serious part of the accusation is article 115 of the Penal Code, which deals with threats capable of influencing members of the state apparatus.

Those convicted under the same section above range from pie throwers to Islamists:

  • Mohyeldeen Mohammad was jailed for two years and six months for threatening the liberal politician Abid Raja. It is the most severe punishment given.
  • A man who sent syringes to the prime minister and threatened to kidnap the royal family because he was banned from a leisure club, was given one year and three months.
  • The woman who pressed a shaving foam cake base against the head of Minister Solveig Horne (Frp) during the Pride parade in 2016 had to serve 45 days.

The Bertheussen case is so special that there is nothing similar in Norwegian legal history, but a claim of at least two years was to be expected.

State Attorney Frederik Ranke emphasize a lot of aggravating circumstances, and that there is hardly anything extenuating to point out.

He highlighted the high number of threats and that the crimes were well planned and carefully organized. It is said that he disconnected the security camera, distorted his handwriting and built an alternate group of perpetrators.

“It should be possible to show empathy and understanding with the victim, but I have not seen any trace of that. He did not even change course, although the cohabitant ended up having to resign as Minister of Justice, “he summarized.

“As far as security measures are concerned, the reaction was the same with Wara and Bertheussen. So the question is whether there is a standard reaction on how to react. It would have been nice to have that recipe, so that criminals could read it,” he said defense attorney John Christian Elden in court.

Defender John Christian Eldens The task is to question absolutely everything that the prosecutors claim.

He spent his part of the day analyzing all the evidence, ruling out most of it as a result of tunnel vision and speculation.

The letters were soaked in dog urine, but Bertheussen had a cat. Other people have not been investigated. He was unable to hold a pen due to an operation. The play gave reason to review, not to attack itself. That you had the opportunity to do these things is not the same as a test.

“Conditions are said to have ceased when Bertheussen was arrested. This was also said in the Fritz Moen case. It lasted 25 years, until the other perpetrator was found,” Elden said in court.

Towards the end of the day it showed Laila Bertheussen on the back of today’s bag.

It has the text ICD-10 301.50, and images of emojis from the entire emotional record.

ICD-10 is a diagnostic manual for mental disorders and 301.50 is the code for histrionic or dramatic personality disorder.
