It can become a heat record: – Break the dream of a white Christmas.

So far, December has featured gray weather across much of the country. In Oslo, meteorologists have measured six hours of sunshine in the last 17 days. In Kristiansand the number is five, while in Fagernes there has not been a single hour of sunshine this month.

And on weekends, the temperatures can be so high that one the 1998 heat record represents fall.

At Sunndalsøra, where the previous heat record was 18.3 degrees, forecasts are around 17 degrees. And with good blow-drying possibilities, it can get even hotter.

Windy, wet and gray

Just a week before Christmas Eve, meteorologists are shattering the dream of a white Christmas with sunshine and blue skies for most Norwegians.

– Is there hope for a sunny Christmas break?

No. This weekend and early next weekend, it will be mild, windy, wet and gray in much of the country, the meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute, Pernille Borander, tells Dagbladet.

The best Christmas weather

In western Norway, temperate weather will continue beyond next week, and the outlook is positive for those who hate shoveling. But north of Stadt, on Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag, there are opportunities for a White Christmas.

Southern and eastern Norway will have lower temperatures throughout the week. However, no precipitation is expected, so the probability of snow is also small in these areas.

Borander still believes that the Christmas weather can be pleasant for Norwegians in eastern Norway.

– On Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve, there will be a north wind in eastern Norway that can provide clear weather, frost and frost. It can create the feeling of a white Christmas, says the meteorologist, adding:

– Eastern Norway will probably have the best Christmas weather, at least for those who don’t like snow.

White in the north

Statistics from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute show that the probability of snow on Christmas Eve has decreased along the entire coast from the Swedish border to Lofoten in the north. But for some it won’t be Christmas without snow. For them, however, the meteorologist has good news:

- You must be prepared to cancel on Christmas Eve

– You must be prepared to cancel on Christmas Eve

– In the mountains, both in the south and in the north, it will be possible to achieve a Christmas atmosphere. Although it will now be a mild couple of days, not all the snow will melt. Most likely there will be no new snow before Christmas, but there will be white landscapes.

The trend continues further north, and in some parts of northern Norway there will be snow showers during the Christmas season.

– It indicates that there will be less degrees and snow on Christmas Eve in Bodø, Tromsø and Kirkenes, says Borander to Dagbladet.
