After the Oslo City Council introduced “social lockdown” a week ago, they are now tightening up even more.
Severe austerity measures were introduced in the capital last Monday. Among the measures was the red level in upper secondary schools, with reinforced infection control measures and smaller groups.
– The infection has continued to increase even with very strict restrictions. In four weeks, we have gone from 400 infected in a week to almost 1,200, says Oslo City Councilor Raymond Johansen.
– When we introduced the closure, we protected children and young people, and we will continue to do so as much as possible. Unfortunately, we see that infection increases a lot among young people, he says.
These are the measures introduced in Oslo:
- Prohibition of leisure activities organized indoors for young people from 13 to 19 years old. This means that activities in, for example, choirs, choirs, theater, scouts, dance and organizations should cease. The ban will not apply to children of primary school age.
- Prohibition of indoor sports in general for young people from 13 to 19 years old. This means that training must stop, for example in football, gymnastics, handball, volleyball and athletics. The ban will not apply to children of primary school age or outdoor sports. The ban will also not apply to those who play high-level sports, but are under the age of 20.
- From yellow to red in infection control measures in lower secondary schools. This means, among other things, that students are divided into smaller cohorts and that contact between the cohorts should be avoided. Attendance restrictions and different student attendance schedules are evaluated from school to school.
- The ordinary activities of the leisure clubs are closed. It will still be possible to have a very limited offer under strict infection control rules with access restrictions, distance rules, group size and requirements for face masks.
The measures will have an initial duration of two weeks.
See an overview of all the measures that apply in Oslo below in the case.
– We know that this is a difficult message for many children and young people to receive. Leisure activities play an important role in the lives of many young people, says Johansen.
– Right now, the infection arrow points directly to the verse, and it can go from bad to worse. In many European countries, the infection has skyrocketed. If we don’t reverse development, we could end up in a situation where we have to shut down everything, he says.
Growth in the number of cases of infection.
Last week, there was a growth in the number of infections of 31 percent. This is an increase from the previous week, when growth was 27 percent.
On average, 6.7 percent of all who tested positive in the past week. In the last week, Oslo registered 172 new cases of infection for every 100,000 inhabitants.
In the last two weeks, most cases of contagion have been registered in the age group of 20 to 29 years, according to the municipality’s own figures.
Of a total of 2107 cases of infection, 473 are cases of infection in this age group. Among those older than 70 years, 94 cases of infection have been recorded.
In the graph below you can see the percentage increase per week, from week 43 to week 46:
It is currently too early to say whether the measures that took effect on Tuesday last week have been effective.
Why do you have to wait 14 days to see the effect?
- Take on average 4 to 7 days from being infected with the coronavirus to having symptoms (but this can range from one to 14 days)
- In the latest FHI weekly report, they state that Oslo needs on average 2 days some have symptoms until they are put to the test.
- If you expect 1-2 days to elapse before you receive your test response, it may be between 7 and 11 days from someone infected until they register infected.
