The government is considering new local measures in the municipalities, but these will not be announced until Sunday.

The Norwegian Health Directorate confirmed to VG on Saturday night that the government will present the measures at a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Second stricter level

Government sources told NTB that the plan was originally to introduce new measures for Oslo’s neighboring municipalities on Saturday, but that this will not happen until Sunday.

What the government is considering introducing for the other municipalities around Oslo, such as Lillestrøm, Asker and Bærum, are measures of risk level 4, as reported by NTB. Nordre Follo and the other nine municipalities were placed at level 5, the strictest level.

These are examples of measures introduced at level 4, but they may vary and have not been determined:

  • Up to ten contacts per week
  • At private events: up to ten people inside, 20 outside.
  • At public events: up to ten people inside, 50 outside.
  • Pour stop.
  • Closure of entertainment facilities.
  • Documented home office.
  • Red level in secondary schools.
  • Mainly digital teaching in universities and colleges.
  • Wide sports stop for adults inside.
  • Use of masks in public spaces when you cannot keep one meter away.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel.

Rakkestad Mayor Karoline Fjeldstad confirms to VG that it has been proposed that the municipality be placed at level 4 at today’s meetings.

– I’ve supported it. In Rakkestad, we already have strict local regulations, so we’re almost level 4 anyway, so there’s not much drama in this. We want to follow up on the measures to come and see how serious this is, says Fjeldstad.

When asked if they have any cases of the mutated virus in the municipality, the mayor responds:

– We do not know. So far, infection rates are decreasing in the municipality. We have sent samples to FHI after the outbreaks we had over Christmas and New Years weekend for safety.

Don’t expect significant changes

The municipality of Lørenskog has had high infection pressure since Christmas and therefore not much change in measures is expected after the outbreak in Nordre Follo.

– We have already introduced a strict regime, which corresponds to level 4. This means that we do not expect significant changes now, says the mayor of Lørenskog, Ragnhild Bergheim, to VG.

The municipality has not detected the mutated virus from the UK.

– If we have an outbreak of the mutated virus without a known source of infection, then we are in the same situation as in Nordre Follo and we must be prepared for closure, says Bergheim.

Both the neighboring municipalities of Rælingen and Lillestrøm have also had strict infection control rules recently, regardless of the outbreak in Nordre Follo. Therefore, the location at risk level 4 will not make a big difference to them either.
