The case is being updated.

There is now an intense monitoring of infections, the municipality of Trondheim writes in a press release Monday afternoon.

The municipality is now asking 600-700 people to get tested, Adresseavisen, acting municipal physician Elizabeth Kimbell, confirmed Monday night.

An outbreak affects the Eritrean environment of the city, where a total of eight people have so far been diagnosed with the infection. “The Office of Infection Control has a close and good collaboration with environmental specialists and works together with representatives of various congregations and groups to map the situation and disseminate information,” the report says.

The Municipality of Trondheim has close contact with two congregations that have Eritrean members. The infection that has occurred is not related to church worship services or meetings, but church leaders are now helping to get the information out to their compatriots living in Trondheim.

Israel S. Aga is the president of the Ebenezer Evangelical Church, which has 150 members. Most of the members are Ethiopians, about five percent from Eritrea, according to Aga.

– We try to spread information to everyone in our church, to all Eritreans and to everyone who is in close contact with Eritreans. They must test themselves and follow the rules of the authorities, says Aga.

They have services for a maximum of 40 people at the moment.

– Everyone must register before entering, and we follow the distance rules of the authorities, says the president of the board.

Kahsay Asgdom Berhane is the leader of the Eritrean Evangelical Church of Peniel, which has 140 members in the congregation. Berhane says the infected are not members of his church.

– We respect and follow the rules of the Norwegian Health Directorate and will help to spread the information, says Berhane.

He says they have limited the number of participants in worship services to 50 each Sunday, everyone must register with their name and phone number and they keep two meters apart. This also applies if the congregation has other activities such as studying the Bible.

The Office of Infection Control receives support from the Immigrant Qualification Center and the refugee health team in its infection detection work. The municipality also collaborates with a national infection detection team and a migratory health unit of the National Institute of Public Health.

The Office of Infection Control does not yet have a full description of the outbreaks and notes that several of those infected have had mild or no symptoms. “We still don’t know where the infection is coming from, so the infection control office has come out with information,” the municipality writes.

Large numbers of people have been encouraged to test themselves as part of the survey. This is an important measure to stop the infection, and it is crucial that you get tested, even if you have no symptoms, recommends the Municipality of Trondheim.
